Ottawa Food Photography

Photographing food has become a real art unto intself, because food design has ramped up substantially over the last few years.  I think it all started with the concept of “nouvelle cuisine” , but now at least we get better portions..lol.

Ottawa Skyline Stock Photography.

……A couple of times a year I find someone grabbing my images and using them without authorization or payment. I know its the Wild West out there, but wow, that is pretty cheeky if you are actually planning to do some PR or have a convention in MY town.

The solution is fairly simple. Generally I simply invoice them for double what they would have paid and of course, since I have now stated it in my blog…well, guess what, thats the stated legal price. I suppose it would be nicer if folks were honest from the get go…but, barringthat…paying for your sins works out too.

Women of The North

We shot this editorial cover spread for Ottawa Life in the studio with 9 remarkable women of the North.  Having travelled to the North many times, I am always overjoyed to meet Northerners and especially this crowd.  I was particulary pleased to hear that Kenojouk Ashevak was to be included, so I actually took some

work I had purchased on a trip to Cape Dorset and used it as a prop in the shot.   I am looking forward to heading North again on assignment…this time, with hopefully a few days to enjoy the fantastic landscape.

Vintage Wings – Michael Potter

We were planning and coordinating an upcoming shoot at Vintage Wings so I thought I would pull out my shoot from a few years ago and viola…here you go. Yes, that is a real WWII Jeep and yes….that is a real Spitfire.

My career has brought me to the Arctic Circle, two kilometres down in the deepest mine in Canada in Sudbury, but I have to say this is one of the coolest places to shoot.  I am a bit of a WWII history buff, given my Dad`s military exploits and

sitting in the cockpit of one of these is truly a treat.

Ottawa Annual Report Photography/Dental Office

Like most people, I am terrified of Dentists, but these folks put me at ease really quick…thanks for the Nitrous Oxide.  But seriously, it was interesting to learn how hi tech these operations have become and cool to rebrand an industry that generally is not thought of as warm…

Ottawa Glamour Shot

This is a creative project I shot for a local makeup artist.  It was my first time trying this technique and I have to say that we had a blast shooting it. One thing for certain though, I have even more respect for folks who do great video now that I have seen the amount of work needed to get it right.

Women of the North….

We created a cover spread for Ottawa Life`s Women of the North issue and this was my take on the Eldest and the Youngest of these women. Two artists, one who I had the pleasure of first meeting years ago in Cape Dorset on a Time Magazine shoot, the second an up and coming chanteuse.  Elisapie Isaak was quite the trooper…singing at the Nac that evg with the flu. Kenoujuak was photographed for the cover holding a screen print I had purchased from her on a trip to Cape Dorset.
