Quick little shoot for a client that designs trade show booths…
The US flag is quite the icon….I spent an hour in a room with just Old Glory and one light conjuring up the history of our amazing neighbour to the south….a country of great troubles…but also of great dreams.
We get to shoot a lot of historic events…. This is the first high altitude flight using Virent fuel made from beets. Yes, you read that right! One day biofuels will be a normal part of aviation and after a hundred years of burning fossil fuels, it`s about time.
When you need the shot on time, on budget and done right….Who ya gonna call?
I don`t take sides in social media or in business when it comes to the political arena. To date, I have worked with all parties and I am the only photographer in Ottawa who has done portraits of every Prime Minister from Trudeau to Harper.
I have photographed Rick Mercer on a number of occasions, from one on one portraiture to event coverage and performances. I had not seen him in years and it was great to hear that one of my prints is still on his office wall. This series was done at an Ottawa convention and I was keen to capture a Mercer that was a bit different than one sees in his famous rants and 22 Minutes appearances. Onstage he uses a lot more body language than on television and in person he exudes a genuine nature that goes with his Newfoundland heritage.
Thanks Rick for keeping us laughing about the good, the bad and the ugly that is Canada. We promise to get it right.
We shot this recently for a Pembroke area company that is a thriving Ottawa Valley business. We get a lot of work from the surrounding communities, especially when they are real keeners on doing good solid marketing. There were no fancy ad agencies involved…just the guys and myself. The end result will be a couple of large billboards in the Pembroke area, a site and some collateral printed campaigns. These are not arty shots…they are simply well exposed, sharp images that will look good on huge signs and billboards. It might seem odd, but a huge percentage of photogs don`t seem to be able to pull this off…which is why we get to reshoot a lot of commercial photography every month. Schools seem more and more interested in letting their photography students…”express themselves”….but guess what, that is not what a huge percentage of commercial photography is all about. (end rant, lol)
Once again…half the fun for me is meeting these guys and helping them come up with strong shots with good expressions and tech quality that will help them grow their business.
We were contracted to create a complete new look for a boutique law firm on location in Toronto…. Sometimes we get to not only shoot, but effectively Art Direct an entire project…we are comfortable creating images either way. Today, photography for promotional uses has to be carefully planned, taking into consideration everything from site design, marketing aims, technical specs of the medium and yes, budgets and timeframes. We are proud to say that we have photographed over a thousand lawyers during the course of our history and have been official photographers to the Provincial Court of Ontario, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada……case closed.
We shot this for noted Ottawa artist Christopher Griffen at our Centretown Ottawa studio. It is tough to figure out the scale by looking at the shot…but to give you an idea, it takes two people to pick this little elephant off the ground. Luckily we have large cargo loading doors and a ground floor studio which makes this kind of shoot a….pardon the pun….snap.
We photographed Ambassador Heyman at our large Centretown Ottawa studio. Smart guy…but then again, the US Diplomats are generally the smartest guys in the room…The photographs were for editorial usage in Ottawa Life Magazine…a client for over 15 years.
